hello everyone,
i have a 2001 ram, regular cab short box 4wd. well im wondering if i have a vacuum problem or what is going on. first it wont shift in to od at all. it has one time. and that was when ihad the last tranny in it. i have changed it sincethen. and on top of that when it is lowon fuel it wont shift out of first gear. well sometimes it willafter driving it for a while sometimes shorter than others. and idoknow that theevap box thatis located under the bed does have a good sized whole in it. willthis cause itordoi have a bigger problem that i should take it toa shop and fix? orwouldtheevap box fix my problems?

The transmissions won't shift into overdrive until the engine is sufficiently warm enough for it, and it also won't shift into overdrive unless the transmission is cool enough for it. Have you checked the fluid level in neutral on a level surface after the motor has warmed up to full operating temperature? It sounds to me like it's low on fluid. I'm not really sure about the low on fuel thing as I've never heard of anything like that at all. A vacuum leak on these trucks causes all sorts of other issues too.
well thank you for the advice. the only thing that i didnt put in my post is that itdoes have the 360 in it and thetrans that is in it is out of a 98 durango that had a 5.9 in it. i tried changing the computer to see if that was the problem, but that didnt work so i changed it back. im just confused as all get out on what to do.
and on another subject. i want to level my baby. would a set of 3/4 ton sprongs in the front be to much? i dont want her nose up.

You need to change the sensors in the tranny. 98 is different than a 2001 and OD will not work. The exterior plugs are the same , but the sensors are different. You have to change the TCC and OD solenoid assembly and the governor pressure switch. The Gov. switch mounts differently and may require swapping the Gov. body. If you still have the old tranny you can swap those parts from it.

yes i think im pretty sure i know where theoriginal trans is. but it was completely shot. it wouldnt move at all. and the last trans i had in it was the one that the oeverdrive worked on. it was a 98 also. but was outof a 318 truck. and on changing all the sensors. how hard is that? do i need to pull the trans again to do so?
does anyone know why it wont shift when its low on fuel?? i think om gonna tryand change that evap boq underneath the bed and see where that goes.

All you want from the original 2001 tranny is the Governor body. Then purchase new sensors. 3 of them. TCC lock up and OD sensor assembly(comes with harness), Gov. pressure switch, and Gov. solenoid.
