97 ram1500 360 dana 44 just had front end apart to do axle seals and wheel joints went ahead and replaced the bearing on the pinion closest to the yoke couldnt find a new crush sleeve any where and was just going to use the one that was in there .. now the only problem is that i dont know how much to tighten it or how to torque it any help please trying to finish this job tonight....

 

get a new crush sleeve...then you would know you have the torque right....someone on here will know where to get one...quad4x4.com maybe

 

well i really need to get it done tonight and it didnt have much play at all in it the race was fine and just put a new bearing in it i fig if i got it to the same where it was it would be fine but dont know the specs is there any way i can use it

 

ill look in my manual i got for the inch pounds for spinning the axle when its tight as

ok i mean i have a torque wrench but dont now how much to tighten since it has been used but ill be bac on aound 1030 thanks man

 

ok its say in the 2001 manual pinion nut to be tightened to 190-290 ft pounds

and pinion bearing preload to 10-20 inch pounds if original bearing
or 15-35 inch pounds if new bearings

 

damn i wouldnt wanna waste all that time and money on the new stuff you put in there without the right parts...you should recheck it when you can or redo

 

yea im just goin to wait until i get a new one .. ive never done this before and learning as i go .. i can get one in on wednesday.. i dont know what you mean by pre load though.. after i get the new one on what do i have to do to install it right so the carrier can just bolt on ..

do a search...and then read the directions

the preload means while you are spinning the yoke on the diff without the carior in it would read such and such inch pounds...inch pounds aint much ....and then re-tighten the pinion nut if they are not enough/or to loose ..and you cant unloosen a crush sleeve...hence the name it crushes...kinda like a disformed piece of pipe that is supposed to crush at the right pininion nut torque

 

are you talking about the 4 bolts that have the sleeves that hold carrier? i thought it was 80 ft lbs
