Hi ranges are actually synchronized. Low range is not. To get mine into four low, i put the trans in neutral, truck rolling slowly at less than 3mph, and give the stick a good hard yank. Same to go back to high range.

like hey said, at very very slow speed (or stopped) AND trans in neutral - shift the sob as hard and fast as you can from 4low to 2hi. do not shift easy, do not shift slow, do not pause in neutral.

if you do pause, and get stuck in neutral, turn engine off, finish the shift, and restart the engine.

If you don't care for the noise associated with the shift then you can do like I do and just put the truck in neutral and cut it off to shift. When you start it again it will be in gear and there's no grinding to scratch at your nerves.
