5.2l 5.9l
Well I dunno what kind of v10 your friend had, but my v10 (auto, 4x4, 4.10s) could run circles around a 360 (5.9)
The truck is much faster than I thought it would be. And as someone said it in the thread already, you don't need a lot of parts with a v10. They have 310 horse and 475lb-ft of torque stock. But if you're looking for aftermarket, there is plenty of it out there. Cam, lifters, rockers, headers, cat-back, intake, throttle body, PCM, supercharger. What else do could want?
They aren't that hard on milage either. I get 13 unloaded on the highway and around 11 towing a load. City is a different story, but you don't buy a truck to cruise around. There are very few trucks that get decent city milage...especially when you start modding them.
Parts aren't hard to get for a v10 either. I just lost a front axle seal and a water pump (truck has 141,000 on it), and I was able to get parts at the local bumper to bumper parts store. Although I could've gotten them cheaper from chryslerpartsdirect.com
Personally, I've always thought 360s were sluggish. They're not nearly as reliable as a 318, and for being a larger motor they don't seem to have much more snap to them. Maybe it's just me. I wish they'd bring the 340 back...now that was a sweet motor.

I have noticed that the 360 is sluggish also compared to some equal engines of different makers, i have modded mine out at some expense and I think its pretty peppy now...was thinking of going back to stock tires and getting rid of the big hog 265's I have on mine, I only get about 10mpg at the best with Ram Sport 4x4 everything runs great smooth, timing good plugs, plenty of air, last thing i can think of is tire size
As for V10 or 5.9 its like comparing apples to oranges, 2 cylinders is 2 cylinders more than the 5.9 and If i put a V-10 in my 1500 along with gearing I would run circles around any V10 2500 out there
