I had the same problem. Tested the TPS and it was bad. Replace and all good now.

I have a 2001 extended cab sport 4x4 with the 5.9 in it that did the same thing when I first bought it.
I changed the TPS and the problem went away.

Disconnect the negative battery cable while you remove the old one and install the new one.

Brad,

Has the same problem. I bet the surge happens when you have cruise control on too. Dodge has a foaming carb cleaner you can get from the dealer. Spray it down the TB like you would Sea Foam and let it sit for a couple hours. Then run her until the smoke clears! The Mopar stuff was about $17 bucks a can. OMC makes a similar product for outboards that costs $6 a can (this is what I use once a year). Sea Foam should do the trick too.

Do it once a year after that and you should be good.

Did the TPS solve your issue?

Anytime I hear of a missing or a stutter at highway speeds or when your laying into it, I think of intake manifold leaks. Anywhere from the backside of the T/B all the way to the head. Generally it's an air leak between upper/lower halves. not sure what type of gaskets are used or what intake issue's the 2nd Gens even have??

At any rate, just curious.

Installed the TPS and everything is running smoothly again.

Thanks to all.
