Default Accel ignition coils...

suck..

I started experiencing a small misfire every once in a while, that eventually turned to a misfire while under load, which evolved into a serious misfire at idle, and over a couple day period..

I never popped a code.. and I couldn't catch it with the laptop either.. not even a pending code.. and then finally- whilst I was preparing to swap out dizzy cap, rotor button, and wires- one came up.. a P0300.. a generic misfire, or one that indicates multiple cylinders misfiring.. huh..

I recall reading about Accel products being less than adequate for the job- but only after I had purchased a ton of them, and one being a coil.. I held onto the OE coil for this reason..

I put it back on and drove a good bit, and nothing.. not one misfire.. the truck fires up w/o any hesitation (it would turn a bit before) and it releases from a standstill much firmer..

damn it..

Accel Blows.. this is the fourth time I've been bitten by using their products.. plug wires fail, dizzy caps and buttons don't last- they deteriorate/corrode quickly, and GOD forbid you ever attempt to run Accel injectors.. (DO NOT DO THAT- they are crap.. they are across the board on flow and not a one of them matched the others)..

I thought I'd pass this along to my Dodge brethren..

Now, I'm going to go back and dig up that MSD rig.. maybe I should consider launching it again.. I, maybe, should never had taken it off.

i have an accel coil on my truck and i have been having some of the same problems you have been having. this might explain why my truck stalled as i was about to enter an intersection the first and only time i drove my 81 on the road. i was thinking the problem was with the coil but it has been too cold out to change it.

since it is not to cold today i changed the coil and it ran so much better with my spare coil than the accel coil. my truck had such a bad shake sometimes when idling with the accel coil. now it seems to run as smooth as an engine is suppose to. i am glad i never bought this coil for the truck. i would never buy an accel product after this bad experience.

i had the exact same problem - ive been trying to troubleshoot this for weeks and refused to replace more than the rotor button since it ran fine as dream before the misfire eventually began to be more than intermittant - will try the coil and see how it goes

btw - thanks for posting that in the details you did - it nailed my problem right on the nose and also was very clea - ive been searching all over the place on the web and found similar problems, but not very specific as to the description you gave in how your problem started (no codes) and progressed, not to mention the actual solution - the "coil" - it was the "no-code" portion that caught me cuz my 1999 5.9 360 never gave a code and passed emissions with flying colors, which told me it wasnt the cat - thx - will post once i install the new coil

I stopped running Accel years ago when Echlin sold them off to Mr Gascrap (Gasket) and like most of thier other cheap azz products...started making the stuff overseas.
Well except one part, my adapter harness for my MSD coil.
Don't that just suck?

Lol, thats the reason I went with the accel coil was because I was already buying the accel adapter harness.
