Thanks for your advice about the sensor. Turns out that I did not need a pigtail to make the connection to the wiring harness. After a trip to the yard looking for a pigtail , I determined that the connector, even as short as the wire was, just needed to be mated with the sensor.
Because I was not there when the engine wiring harness was removed, I was not sure of the routing. Turns out that by removing the A/C compressor support bracket, the harness could be pushed down between the compressor and the intake plenum, and the connector would reach the sensor.
Rerouting the harness and installing the connector just took about 30 minutes.
The vehicle starts and runs with no problem.

Turns out, the connector coming out of the wiring harness will reach if the harness if properly routed between the AC compressor and the intake.
All is well with the 360 now. Check engine light went out.

Now if I can only figure out why the gas gauge needle is floating up and down, seemingly with the sloshing of the fuel.

Below about half a tank, my gauge has a serious case of the floats as well..... Step on the brakes, you produce gas, step on the go-pedal, gauge drops like a stone.... I think it is a product of the sending unit in the tank..... I don't think it is electronically damped..... or, if it is, not very effectively. There is no fix for that that I am aware of.
