ASD is a relay in the Power Distribution Center, right behind the battery, under the hood. They sometimes fail..... Swap the ASD relay with the wiper relay, and see if your truck will start. (and if it will, see if your wipers still work....)

Unscrew the o2 sensor and see if it starts.

Code 42: Open or short in the ASD relay wiring or connectors. If the ASD relay isn't working, your truck isn't gonna start.

Do you have wiring diagrams for your truck?

there is no o2 sensor on the truck. never got around to putting another one in it. i have probed the plugs for the asd relay and that seems to be fine and have switched relays. one thing i have noticed is that occasionally i can put it in neutral and then back into park and it will start but not every time. could this be the ignition switch allowing it to crank but not powering the ignition?

yes there is an o2, unless you eliminated it. And yes, it could be ignition switch or neutral safety switch.
