Default Rear Suspension Choices

I have a 2000 Ram 2500 Quad cab. It's a 8800GVW on the sticker. I've done a lot of work to truck recently. New motor and a lot in front end. I replaced a single leaf 2 summers ago cause it was broken.

Today I loaded a Dirt Modified frame into the back of my truck. Yes it's LONG. It over hung out of the back of truck by quite a bit. It weighs a few hundred lbs. Normally take 2 good guys to lift and move. When car is complete they weigh 2400lbs. So i'm guessing at the few hundred. Anyways. The back of my truck was dropped down a lot. Now i'm wondering if leafs are worn out? None seam broken. I tow a lot and heavy stuff. Looking at picking up a enclosed trailer that is 3500 lbs empty. then load 2400lb car and all supporting equipment in it. It's gonna be heavy.

So my question is this. Should I replace the Leaf springs with same as what's in there stock? Put a helper spring in the ones that are in there? Replace with more leafs? I don't off road or anything like that. My truck is used like a truck I tow a race car, and plow, and do use truck on long trips. Some advise be good. Thanks.

Go for air lift helper springs in the rear. Doesn't compromise the already crappy unloaded ride.... and you can adjust the height of your rear to suit your taste/load.

Any recommendations on which one to go with? Should I replace the leafs as well as doing that. Or just do that?

i had the air ride on my truck and it helped ALOT, just make sure you put some petroleum jelly on the tube that goes into the air bag, i had a small air leak because of that.

Firestone makes some good ones, along with several other manufacturers. Air Bags are just helper springs though, go between the frame, and the existing leaf spring, so, leave the leaves on there too.

fwiw- I'm running skyjacker softrides +3" leaves.. they are workig out pretty good for me..

the have a linear curve as opposed to a progressive for the first few inches of travel, but then ramp up sharply for the remainder of the travel- which allows a nice unloaded ride, and a lot more capacity under load.

Why not link it and use a pair of coilovers? The cost of a high quality airbag kit will be comparable. Airbags are really just a bandaid for the problem anyways on a pickup truck.

I was looking at the Airlift bags. Just trying to decide if i should replace the leaf springs with new ones, and add the bags while i'm in there. Or just leave the warn out ones in there, and add the bags.

How much money ya wanna spend?

With the airbags, you can compensate for any spring sag, without trouble.

I don't wanna spend a lot really. LOL But I want to be sure that truck will not drop when i put this new to me trailer i'm gonna get. I use to use a 6" drop slide this past summer used a 2" drop. I know the truck can tow it Horse Power wise. I just don't want the truck to drop and look like one of those low riders in the back and the front sky jacker. LOL I want the truck to sit level again when the heavy trailer is on it. So if that means I need to replace the leafs I will. just add airbags I will. or both I will. Just looked at truck and it has 4 leafs in it. And there defiantly warn out. Cause they don't look the same as it did. U can see just the box has them sagging a little. I ordered in today the Air lift Brand bags. Auto zone has them and since I have a commercial account with them i can look at them and if I don't like them, send back with out being charged anything. So what should I do???????????????
