Default 2001 Ram 1500, antifreeze smoke in vents

Hello fellow Dodge Ram owners. I just bought my 2001 Ram 1500 4X4. I was driving proudly when all at once I smell antifreeze and smoke comes out of the vents. I can not turn the heat on without having this happen. What is the mistery to me is the antifreeze in the radiator does not seem to be lost. Has anyone had this problem and what to do about it?

Antifreeze smell normally means a bad heater core but never heard of smoke coming out the vents.

It may not be smoke but it looks like it. It might be steam but it hangs in the air for a while before disapating. Can I repair the heater core or is a new one in order?

And how complex is it to remove and install one. My dash has a lot of cracks in it and I do not want to do more damage but I ASSuME I will have to take the dash out.

i must be just that good than....haha. it really isnt a hard job, and i had never done one before. i just took my time and did my research. i do all my own work anyway, as well as all the work needed on the family cars. i can do it all. wish i was a mechanic all the time, but im not because most places around here wont hire unless properly trained.

I wish I had known about this before, I had a heater core go out on my truck a while ago. Before I knew anything about wrenching. Took it to a shop and paid 800$ to get it fixed. Haven't been to a shop for any else since.
