Default Strange noise. Very strange.

So when I accelerate, I occasionally hear a sound like really dry leaves being blown over a driveway. Like that slight scrape like sound. It just sounds EXACTLY like them, so you all can picture it.

However no noticeable loss of power, rpms are at a normal level, everything else feels fine. I'm not that worried honestly, since I can't imagine an engine making that noise. It must be something else.

This may be pointless to add but I feel as though I should include everything, yesterday I picked up four 16" rims and pretty bald tires from a 2500 Ram and they have been in my bed since the sound started happening. But I can't imagine why they would cause it.

Any input appreciated!

On my truck.... the heatshield on the gastank had one of the retainers break, and it would hit the driveshaft when loaded..... I don't think that would be the same noise though......

Might wanna have a look at your u-joints though.

Engine pinging could be that noise, sounds pretty close, and acceleration is when it'd do it if it was going to.

When was the last time a tune-up was done? Have you fixed your plenum gasket yet?

How about removing the wheels and tires from the bed to see if the sound goes away?

Update: The sound I thought was leaves was actually liquid spilling wholesale onto the inner front bumper whenever I accelerated. It was water for sure. My coolant level was fine, temperature after running for a while was fine, power was fine.

Just the sound of water spilling whenever I hit the gas, and it's loud enough to hear over the engine. Doesn't happen while braking though.

I'm pretty perplexed. Truck is running like a champ other than that. The water pump got replaced 4 days ago but the sound started happening a day and a bit AFTER that. On the way home from the shop all was well. But I bought the Haynes repair manual for the truck today so hopefully I can avoid trips to the shop.

Anyway my dad and I are gonna get under it tomorrow to see what's up.

Could have some air still in the system and when get on it it's pushing the coolant through the heater core. At one point or another all 5 of our dodges you can hear water running through the heater core.
