I have a question...cab my plenum leak cause the vacuum hiss when I apply the brakes?I went out today &when I push the brakes you here the sucking hiss.Brakes work fine&I tested the booster by holding the pedal down&then starting it the pedal will go slowly to the floor as should.Im worried because my wife is having her c section monday&we have no family in state&we damn sure can't get her me&my other kid to the hospital on my bike.I got my plate yesterday just no time to put it on.Any ideas if the plenum could cause that?Plus my hvac has been messed up

Where do you hear the hiss?

If your brakes work the way they should, it may just be a normal sound.

Its hard for me to hear exactly from where its coming from due to my tinitus but it for sure happens when I step on the brakes.Ive checked the booster&all the lines.I had the vacuum leak problem we talked about in the other post with my hvac.Im wondering if it all has to do with the plenum.I had a fox body last year &it made the same sound when I hit the brakes&even after I replaced the booster.Ended up being the vacuum reservoir. This truck had never did this before.I did the vacuum test for the plenum&its pulling vac.

Thinking of picking up an intake manifold from the JY locally for about $65... Seem reasonable? Am intake from a 99 durango 5.2 will work, correct?

I was thinking of then cleaning/painting it, and installing the new hardware and plate.. Then maybe grow some ***** and dive in...

Sounds like you have a bad vacuum reservoir. It's located under the wiper cowl on the passenger side.

A mechanic buddy of mine said it would take him about 3-4hrs to tear it down, clean everything really good, and then re assemble. Depending on what the shop charges you are looking at between $50-60 per hour, so a good estimate would be $180-250. He said a very easy job for a decent mechanic. Cleaning the stuff is the time consuming part and re assembly.

Sorry sniper_dave. It mostly depends on per hour rate the shop charges that you take it to.

My bro in law helped me when I did mine and all together it probably took about 7-8hrs, and that included the plenum, distributor cap & rotor, plugs & wires, new timing set, an oil change and cleaning/painting/drying.

I would guess you cold be looking at a min $400 in labor charge all depending on the time it takes and the hourly rate.

Call around the shops in your area and ask how much the hourly rate is.

I have no idea where your@ but I called a bunch of shops&the lowest quote I got was 400 if I buy parts.Alot of the other shops wanted 600-800 if they supply Parts another shop was 500 I buy em.Here most shops charge 75+ an hour.Seems like a fairly easy fix with all of the info&help on here.
