Default Recharging a/c

is there a special adapter required for dodge a/c systems? i went to charge it today and the hose wont fit on the low side the low side port is too big. it fits on the high side line just fine but not the low side. the a/c kit came with an adapter but the end that threads on to the existing port is a female thread and the existing port has threads on the inside so the adapter would have to be a male thread. is this makin sense?

Are you positive the two aren't mixed up?the low side should be the smaller of the two.

The low side is the small one closest to the accumulator (firewall).

when i hooked it up to the small line that runs to the condensor the gauge was in the red zone and the psi was like 130 or something. i checked in the manuel and i thought it said the suction line was connected to the accumilater

if you get the service manual from this site and go to chapter 24(heating and air conditioning) and go to the paragraph that says"
OPERATION - REFRIGERANT SYSTEM SERVICE
PORT" it says the high side is near the front of the motor and the low side is off the accumulator.

Yea, that's what I said. The can and hose you buy at the store will only attach to the low side. I hope you are wearing eye protection and gloves.

you said the low side is closest to the firewall, the manual says the high side is next to the firewall and the low side is on the line going from the accumulator which runs to the compressor.

The port that is closest to the accum/ or firewall is the low side, simple as that. I take it the plastic caps are missing?
