Default 03 axle on a 98?

currently im running a d70hd axle with 3.73 gear ratio and looking for 4.10's
i found an axle from a 03 2500 with disk brakes but wasnt sure if it would be a direct bolt in for my 98 or if i have to cut the brackets off the 98 and weld them on the 03

Do you have stock suspension or a lift kit? The control arm mounts and spring pads should work fine, but I'm not sure about the track bar mount.

Another thing to think of is that you will probably need to change some break components like the proportioning valve I am sure that the 03 axle has Anti Lock Breaks, not sure if you have ALB on the 98. If you do you will most likely need to rewire the connector for it.

Didn't they change axle manufacturers after the second gen trucks? Are all the mounts and such still the same?

^I'm thinking they still had Dana's and Corperates.
I seem to remember the 2500's coming standard with D60's.

I'm thinking the OP has a 2wd and is talking about the rear axle. But between the sketchy info and NO info(except 98) about his current truck, who know's.

not sure about the sketchy info but yes i did leave some info out
rear axle for a 2wd v10 2500

got it all figured out anyway , the 03 axle would not work because the brackets are different , in order to get it to work correctly i would have had to cut the brackets off the current axle and the new axle and swap them over

i ended up finding another d70hd with the 4.10's so im all set , just need to swap it in

3rd gen 3/4 ton + had AAM axles not Dana's.

The 1500 still had the Chrysler 9.25

Dayam, nice frontier! How often does that rear overhang ef ya out on the trail? Time to link the rear and mount the spare tire in the tow rig
