Question Running tailights do not work but my brake lights do???

As the title states my brake lights work but my running tailights do not. I just bought the truck recently so i new to the ram. Could it be a fuse or a bulb? i heard both from many people but i dont know what to follow. any help is needed. Also my dash light is not working. I bought it that way and the guy said it was a fuse. Where is that fuse located? I cant seem to find a fuse box.
Thank you.

Thomas

There are two. One on the drivers side of the dash, just open the door, and there it is.... Another one under the hood, black box behind battery. Should be guides for what fuse does what under the covers.

Not under the dash, right on the drivers side. Open the drivers door, and have a look at that side of the dash, its right there.

A lot of times when the dash lights go out it's a way of telling the driver that the tail light fuse is blown, especially on american cars. Even a bad bulb that shorts instead of opens can cause a blown fuse. First step is to check either the fuse or for power at the tail light before you start worrying about grounds. Start with the simple stuff as ensuring you have power first when working on electrical.

ok so i have a 99 ram and have a similar problem. I was driving and the instrument cluster went dark so first thing i did was check the fuse. It was burnt out so I replaced it and 2 mins later it blew again so I knew there was something more to it. I figured from what I read in my manual and a couple google searchs that it was a short so I got under there and snipped the power (black yellow stripe) wire as close to the dash as I could see and ran it str8 to the tail light ... and now I get instrument panel on one tail light full power but not turn signal and the other tail light is very dim the turn signal works but the brake light doesn't ... so as you can tell from my idiocy I hate electrical work. I am going to be hooking everything back up the way it was when I started working on it and starting fresh. Can someone give me a step by step instructions on where to start and what to check I have multimeter and wire and connectors and no idea how to work on electrical stuff except fuses and batteries pretty much. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks!

pretty sure its a a stock tow trailer too

Put the wiring back to stock, and have a long hard look at your trailer harness on both ends. (both the connector for the trailer, and where the trailer harness meets the rear harness.)
