Default no check valves?

so i fixed my wild vents issue - the previous owner through it was a great idea to disconnect the vac hose from the passenger side of the firewall to the vac lines in the engine bay that + the new blower motor resistor and all is well on that end. Reconnecting the line fixed my wild vent issue, however, im still no getting cruise control.

the light comes on but it doesnt actually work.

started digging around and noticed i dont have any check valves on the vac lines. how many are needed, and where exactly do they do, and which way do they face? im hoping the missing check valves fix the cruise issue.

those little discs labeled #2 are the check valves. they're about the size of a nickel.

i honestly thought those were just elbows. i'll get in there after work and take a look. I saw some other pictures on the net and saw valves about the size of CR123 batteries and knew I was entirely missing those. Maybe they were aftermarket valves.

I went to a dealership and asked for the larger check valve (about the size of an old film canister) and was told they hold the same amount of vacuum as the small check valve. They also cost about 20 bucks, the parts guy was cool and gave me a new check valve free.

rockauto lists Air Check Valve - STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # AV51 {#3512845, 53030467} for about $25. seems awfully expensive.

this threaded fitting is NOT right. this is not the little vacuum check valve.
