dodge loves sea foam
I used Seafoam in my 5.9L this weekend. I "sipped" it in through the brake booster vac line, allowing the motor to stay running on its own, then spraying a bunch in until it stalled after 1/2 can. Then while I was waiting about 15 minutes I poured the rest of the can into my fuel tank. Started up my truck and rev it to about 1800 rpm for a bit then rev'd it to 3000 and let it drop then 4000 then let it drop until the bulk of the smoke had stopped, then went on a 20 minute drive on the highway to make sure it was done smoking. IMMEDIATE beneifts! Smoothed out my idle and great throttle response! I'd use it again for sure.
i seafoamed mine for the first time the other day, 2/3 in the vacuum line and the rest in the tank.
i waited 20 mins started my truck, brought it up to 1700 rpms and there was no smoke! i even recorded it with my camera thinking there would be a huge smoke show, but nothing happened.
does this mean my engine was already clean on the inside?
i did the plenum about a year ago, along with the pcv valve, and i still burn a quart or two of oil every month.

Same thing happened with my 2001. I did it twice on my 1996 and it was a smokescreen, so I thought I did something wrong (which is pretty hard, it is easy).
But, when I did my plenum about 5K miles later, the plenum plate was completely spotless! My truck internals are really clean, and the plenum was not blown (49K at the time). I just did seafoam because it is good to do once per year. In fact, I have a can in the garage I bought a few months ago. Keep forgetting to use it!!
I don't add any to my gas though. I have an inline fuel filter, so I pour a few ounces into the fuel filter (the big oil can thing mounted to the brake booster) and let the truck idle. That cleans the injectors from the inside.
I think you are leaking oil, not burning it. Most of the smoke comes from plenum oil, but STILL a bad cat can create some nice smoke. Make sure to do this when your cat is really hot. So take her for a drive or let her warm up completely before you do that.

I have already modified an intake (from wrecking yard) and waiting on timing set. Plan to replace plugs, wires, water pump at the same time. Would it be wise to run a can of seafoam through a tank or two before I install the kegger and other items?
I really don't think it will make a difference. I would leave it until you get the work done. I also don't add seafoam to my tank. I use the lucas fuel treatment (upper cylinder lube is what it is called) religiously.
After that work, I would just get the quart jug of the lucas upper cylinder lube and squirt three ounces in every tank of gas. I don't use any additive every 4th fillup.

what I learned from my experiences with sea-foam:
keep an eye out for foxes.. popo's.. wayward driving drunkards.. big girls.. bologna sandwiches, and slutty puppies..
the rest is easy.. I highly rec the stuff..
