my vehicle has black inside the pipe tips. It passed california ENHANCED smog tests. If it were running rich, it would not have passed.

All tips are like that on heavy V8s with a lot of cubes (I mean a lot as compared to other vehicles on the road).

Every engine pushes unburned fuel out of the cylinders. The more cylinders, the more unburned fuel.

LOL, 100% electric cars wouldn't, but it stands to reason that the hybrids of today would have the black residue..... they use a 4-cycle 3 cylinder engine for power at... uh, 35+ I believe, and to recharge the batteries when they get low.

When I put my headers on the pipes were white all the way to cat. I thought something was wrong with my truck. My Gpa said back in the day you knew it was running good when the pipes were white. You can't even wipe black soot out my tips they stay so clean.

Did you disconnect the battery to reset the PCM?

Might wanna start looking at the wiring, see if there is a short.

You're gonna need a new pigtail then. It's supposed to clip onto the sensor.

Go to a junkyard... the dealer will charge 5x what it's worth.
