Default 2nd Generation Compatibilities... (RAM/DAK)

Question for anyone who might know.

My dad recently had his 1998 1500 V6 written off by some *** hat crossing multiple lanes of traffic driving a Mazda Protege... he was going fast enough to cause the frame to be bent to crap.

now, he managed to keep the truck, which is cool because he had a lot of brand new parts (brakes, tires, winter rims, glass pak etc)

Anyway, it's the v6, 3.9L magnum engine, 5spd manual trans... 2wd

I'm not able to find a definitive answer to the question of how compatible the 2nd Generation Ram and Dakota's are as far as brakes, suspension, etc etc etc.

He's looking at a number of vehicles, but there are no Rams of a reasonable price in the range he's looking at, but there are plenty of Dakotas.

I'm fairly certain things can be interchangeable just not certain of what exactly.

Thanks,

The only things that will interchange are the motor and trans.

okay, thanks...

unfortunate.
guess we'll keep looking.

It amazes me the amount of people selling Pre-2000 models at ~$3000-$10000 for 250,000km+ (155000 miles+) around here.

come complete with dead transmissions, and a multitude of other issues.

no concept of value.

As far as suspension and brakes go, those should not fit. Fullsize and midsize trucks are totally different when it comes to those things because first, a Ram is much heavier than a dakota, things like springs and brakes have to be bigger just to hold up and stop a heavier truck. Next, the Rams are rated to tow and haul much more than a dakota meaning that it also has to be able to stop and hold up all of that extra weight too.

When it comes to the engine, the block, heads, and other big parts like that will work, but some smaller things like engine accessories (power steering, alternator, ect) probably won't fit, but some might.

The best thing to do is to look at the Ram, make note of everything's part numbers and whatever else you can find about them; and see if it correlates to what your dakota has.
