you could do the exact same thing with a Dakota. overloading a Dakota is just easier.

Ok, that was not the smartest thing in the world to do. A fair number of folks have pointed that out. Don't do it again. If you have to RENT a truck that is rated for that kind of weight. (the ticket for driving that rig would have been seriously painful, and there goes any money you could have hoped to have made.)

The Dakota would have been even more grossly overloaded, and would have been unable to stop that thing.... that would not have been nice, and you prolly wouldn't even be posting here anymore.... (as folks in black suits would be shoveling dirt on top of you.) Point made.

End of that off-topic burst in this thread please.

Now, what was this thread REALLY about? Gas mileage??? Oh, yeah. Ok.

Dang....I forgot what the topic was. Hate it when that happens.....

I recently got 11 mpg highway (but I know part of the problem) and I always like to see waht can be done for mpg gains. I know, owned lots of trucks and gaas mileage is NOT the reason one buys a truck. but I gotta get better than 11. Lifted 4x4 Yota , 6cyl, w/5sp averages 17. But I shy away from snake oil solutions!

well I know mythbusters proved you get better mileage with the tailgate up than with it down or removed... they found the best mileage was actually when it was opened almost half way I believe.
maybe your not using overdrive when towing? and since your driving in town your mileage may improve that way? That is odd if true.

The Weird thing is my driving style doesn't change when I have a trailer or not. I use OD only because I'm not searching for gears. It will probably be a unsolved mistery but I like it.
