Default Tranny check valve

Has anyone tried to drill thru the tranny's line check valve to gut it instead of r/r with a fitting?

I've heard of people doing it, just make sure you get all the shavings out before you reinstall it.

It seems to risky that some metal shaving will be left behind. Do it wrong and it's bye bye tranny. It's worth getting the $15 in parts to do it right.
