I'm just shooting at the moon here, but could it be that the alt is bad? Have it checked to make sure it's good.

That's perfectly sound advice right there. Heck, I'd have said it myself if I hadn't somehow got the notion in my head that he'd replaced the alternator. Connecting it backwards will smoke the rectifier diodes.

oops, i looked at J415's signature.....
the california emissions (at least in later years) had O2 sensors on both sides, whereas (again in later years), the federal emissions had on one precat O2.
never mind on that one.

the 5.9 V8 or 3.? V6 would have different fuel delivery rates. if you don't have a 5.2 pcm, it could be a problem.
i think that is it. i think that my buddy just pulled the wrong PCM. i'm going to get another one. but why wasn't the new alternator producing the correct voltage with the new PCM ?

definitely, i checked it, it wasn't reading the right voltage. i replaced it and the problem continued. which is why i got another PCM. i was hoping that would have fixed it
