Question trans question?

i have a 98 1500 5.2 4x4. all stock drivetrain with 9 inches on 36 mtz's. i was wondering what tranny i can put in place of the 46RE. its about to go and would love to upgrade to somethin better cause all you hear are how big a pos they are. although mine has to be one of the best around as its all stock with the odometer reading almost 230,000. but its been pullin oversize tires pretty much all its life so i figure its got over 300k on it. some help would be greatly appreciated cause i dont know what to do. it just comes out of overdrive at highway speeds, shifts real funny between 1st and 2nd some times, and when it gets real hot it downshifts to first when u back off the gas. scared its gonna do that one day and blow my motor. thinkin the 47RE is the easiest swap with no mods really needed but not sure. hope someone can help. thanks.

PATC Mega Viper. If you still have the stock 3.55 gears, you should fix that too, though with 36 inch tires, I would hope you don't....

Yup, what HeyYou said.

The 47RE will not bolt straight up, bare minimum you'll need to do an adapter of some sort (47RE was designed for Cummins and V10 only), not to mention wiring differences to the PCM.

+1000000000000 for what HeyYou said about the gears.

Mega Viper FTW. With a remote filter (which should be on every vehicle with an automatic) and an aux cooler if you don't have one already. Get rid of the anti-drainback check valve if you've still got one, too. The remote filter will bring back that functionality anyway.

I'm with the others: Get your gears right.
