Default fuel pump problem?

Last week my 2001 ram 1500 5.9 began buckin from a stop to start. The engine light will come on briefly and the fuel gage will drop to show emty. then pause and it begins to run decently again. its seams to be intermitent as it doesnt always happen. I ran the codes and no hard or soft codes are present. any ideas? i was thinking fuel pump assembly. but dropping the tank on a chance is alot of gamble. thanx

Check the fuel pressure at the rails, see if you get inconsistent readings. A Haynes manual has the procedure.

I'll move this to the 2nd gen section, get you additional help.
