Default How can i tell what gears i am running in my 2001 2500 4x4?

Hi guys, bought this truck a few months ago, and i am wondering what gears are actually in my truck? and is there any way of knowing what ratio i have if i provide details such as Dana 40 front/ Dana 60 back. 5.9L. quad cab long box. 5" BDS lift. and BF Goodrich Mud Terrains call em 37's actual size is 36.5"

doing a few things on the truck in the next couple of weeks when some invoices come in, but my truck will is pretty powerful, will get to highway speed quite easily, and sits at 1500 - 1600rpm at 100 km/h

little help and advice from you experienced Dodge boys is always great.

as for the leak i was talking about around a week or so, it was from the bottom left corner of the RAd. thru the side gasket. only 4 month old new Rad, so good ole warranty for that.

seeya

That truck should have Dana 60's front and rear.

Most likely you have 4.10 gears. Look at the tag on the underside of the hood, it will tell you what gears. If it is not there look on the axles for tags, If they are not there you will have to pop a cover off and count the ring gear and pinion teeth or look for a stamp.

A 2001 will have a sticker on the door of the glovebox listing options. It'll show axle ratio and if there's an anti-spin differential.

The general consensus on this forum has been that with your size tires, 4.56 would be much more conducive to a long tranny life.

I dunno what my rpm is at for 100km (62mph) but at 70 im at about 2000-2100rpm I believe and I have 4.56 gears with 35" tires...There is a chart on here if you search that will break it down for you...my guess is you have the 4.10 or possibly 3.92... and yes you can get BETTER gas mileage with 4.56 gears and those tires than the 4.10 gears unless you really baby it and drive on mostly flat land... You also will have much less pickup and go than a stock truck with those gears..4.56 or even 4.88 if you want more low end power and better acceleration to turn those big heavy meats.

id say 4.88's with 37 mud terrains, did you know bfg mud terrains (assuming you have km2's which are notorious for being smaller than advertised) are the heaviest mud tire for their size? if you purchased some all-terrains of the same size youll gain at least 1 mpg.

but anyways i have 3.55's which more than 90% of rams came with, and with 35'' tires at 65 mph im at around 1500 rpm's.

my speedo is also off by 7-10 mph (i use a gps) so when im doing 65 my STOCK speedo says 55
