Default 4x4 light on in 4x2

This is a 1994 Ram 1500...So I just did a driver side axle replacement...I haven't put the truck into 4x4 in a year, but the light has always remained on...After I replaced the axle, I put it in 4x4 to test...the light goes off when in 4H and 4L...It comes on when in N and in 2H..could this be a wiring issue?

See what happens if you exchange the CAD vacuum lines one for the other.

read this http://dodgeram.org/tech/repair/4X4/4x4_engagment.htm
then reverse the vac lines at the cad. while swapping them, check for vacuum.

Canton, Ga... we used to drive up hwy 5 from Marietta to Canton just to ride through the Dairy Queen. The only thing open there at night was the DQ and the pool hall. that was.... let's see, about '72.

sounds like you have your cad vacuum lines switched. one line should have pressure and the other should have vacuum in 2wd, but they switch while in 4x4.

well the crazy thing is...the 4wd engages properly...i tested this by raising the back tires off the ground just enough so they didnt spin...when i engaged both 4h and 4l it worked and the light was off...when i put in in 2h, 4wd didnt work and the light was on...same for neutral....wouldn't the reversed lines not allow this?

haha...the DQ is still there...of course its a walk up now and not a drive through...I worked across the street at a law firm when in high school and would go there everyday...I think my parents were freshmen in high school in '72 lol (born '85)

Well I checked the vacuum lines this morning...are you ready? The black line that leads to the ASM was connected to the red line...the red line was connected to.....air....so i switched the connections then ran my hand above the tranny, praying to find the tube...i found it and after bending the line a little to get it to fit (made sure not to crink it), i made the connection...turned on the truck and the 4wd light works properly.........2 min fix...thanks for the info guys!
