Default Killer dowel pin question

Hey all. Was on line this morning looking for valve lash specs and ran across some KDP info. Well my truck in a 97 and not wanting to deal with a failure of that type, I ran out and got gaskets and so on, tore the cover off and found my dowel a little past the casting. Pic included. Question is, is it ok to tap it back flush with the casting before I bolt in the retaining tab and is flush far enough in? Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about deleting it. A mod will most likely fix it.

Thanks dodgeram07, apparently the diesel guys on this forum don't want to reply as I reposted this in the Cummins section.

Appreciate the links!

Another good site I used when I had my Cummins was the "Turbo Diesel Register".
