I have a 1997 5.2 L and the truck runs at a constant 200 , is this to hot? I have never had a car or truck that ran that hot before. My coolant level is fine and has not been leaking anywhere. Any ideas? Thanks
I run at about 180, if you trust the stock gauge (I don't). Who knows, as stock gauges are generally notorious for being off quite a bit. Bottom line, keep your temps down; if you don't, it'll cook your tranny due to interaction between computers per my Diesel mechanic. If I rememer correctly, he said that high cooling temps make the engine computer run the motor richer, which overheats the cats, which heats up the tranny, or in some other way affects the transmission. I definitely trust his expertise as he is a diesel guru. Don't know if similar high temps would affect a gas vehicle, but I wouldn't think it would be much different.
