Default need cam advice

I have a 95 360 that is being rebuilt. I am replacing a 98 318. I would like to know the largest cam i can go with if i stay with stock pistons i don't have a problem with buying springs with more lift. I am at that point. Any other info is welcome.

Need some more info, like what heads you running, valve size and such, what you plan on doing with the truck, and what else do you have done.

everything stayed stock. I've seated the original valves. Everything on this engine looked great. The block has been soaked and cleaned but since i am putting it back together I thought i would get a lumpy cam sound and upgrade. I can only afford so much at a time. stock crank is being balanced as we speak.

be cautious with big cams.
you'll need pcm tuning to control timing advance and fuel delivery. i don't think an sct tuner will work on a 95? you might have to look into B&G?

using cpu from 98 318, intake and throttle body from 318 will also be used until i can afford more. I figure that can be upgraded later without pulling out motor again.

Intake and tb are the same from 318-360. With everything staying stock spec you might just want to look into some hs 1.7 roller rockers. Cheaper than a cam and the same results as a mild cam. I've been told they give a slight lope at idle as well.

will look in to that. Appreciate that info. I didn't know that. Will I also need higher lift springs?

Nope just put new rockers on and your good to go. While it's all apart you might as well replace the springs anyway though. They get weak as they get old.

I noticed that you plan on using the newer PCM. Did you get the harness for it? I believe some of the plugs are different and your 95 doesn't have an obd port under the dash.
