Default Electrical Cutoff at Start

Hello.

I am looking for some help with my 98 Ram 1500 with the 3.9 engine.

When I insert the key and turn it to RUN, everything is fine but when I turn the key to crank the engine, all the electrical power cuts off. No dash lights, no cranking, nothing. It stays that way when I release the key. Only by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery can I get power back, but when I go to crank the engine again, the whole process repeats.

I have pulled and tested the ignition switch and it seems to be ok.

Does anyone have any thoughts or advice?

Regards,

~rick
