Default Can I get a Lil Advice Please ???

Hi everyone,
I seem to be having a couple of little problems with my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab.
The O/D seems to be working, but I can't seem to turn it off when I am driving around town. The O/D button doesn't seem to work. I tested it by driving about 50-55 mph and bushed the button. It didn't make the RPMs any higher or anything like that. What should I do to solve the problem(to fix it) ?
I am having problems with my tranny not wanting to shift between 2nd and 3rd gear when the truck is warm. If the truck is cold, it seems to shift just fine. It seems to get stuck when the truck is warm and I have to speed up letting the RPMs sometimes get up to 3500-4000 before it will shift. What should the RPMs normally be between when the truck's tranny is functioning properly ? Should I be worried ? I just purchased the truck and it seems to me that the truck shifts hard. I did have the tranny serviced a few days after I purchased the truck. It didn't make much of a difference.

Unfortunately, I am a female that does not have very much knowledge when it comes to Dodge trucks and any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do in regards to my tranny ?
I probably should just find a mechanic, but cash is tight around here as I am sure it is for a lot of people.

Should I be driving my truck until I can get a mechanic to look at it, or park it ???

Thanks in advance,
Stasia

Welcome to Dodge Forum. I will move this to the 2nd Gen Ram section (1994-2001 1500s) to get you some help.

The overdrive turns off and can't be turned back on when the transmission overheats.
Mine did that on the drive home from the dealership the day I got the truck. My torque converter went out and caused the transmission to overheat.
There are transmission shops that will do free diagnostics with the hope that you'll have them fix your transmission for you so try to find a shop that does that.
The transmission shop can hook up their scanner and read the governor pressure sensor and that will tell them if it's plugged up with clutch dust or not.
The governor pressure solenoid and sensor cost about $100 to replace and can be done in the driveway. They tend to go out on these trucks.

So get the diagnostics and see what the shop says.

Be careful with transmission shops they are notorious for not being honest. Make sure you tell them to just diagnose it and not to disassemble anything. Some shops will take the transmission apart saying they had to do so to diagnose it. Then if you don't want them to fix it they charge for the labor to put it back together. There is a major chain that does this quite often It happened my sister
