Default 9.25 rear end rebuild HELP!!

Hey guys, well you probably heard that my rear end blew from my brother. we pop the cover off and found broken bearings and metal shavings. so im thinking i should go ahead an upgrade while i get it repaired. however, im not sure wether to go 3.92 or 4.10 gears or just stay with the 3.55 and also what kind of carrier to get. how much of a difference is 3.92 to 4.10. i do drive a little bit of highway so 3.92 might be best?? also i dont kno if i should go tru trac or Locker. i am ignorant when it comes to the rear differential. what you guys think and recomend. any kind of input is greatly appreciated.

4.10's unless you do alot of highway driving, and if you truley like to drive your truck I would say the locker, if you just kinda drive it and its another vehicle to get from point A to B go with the true-trac

275's. i do drive a little bit of highway. if i do go with the 4.10's would that put more stress on the tranny by driving a lot of highway?? if i go locker am i going to have to replace anything beside tires b/c i would probably not beable to keep my foot off of it lol

had this happened to me. 2nd owner. found out that 2st owner was taking it to Jiffy Lube, who do not put the 3oz friction modifier needed. this was detrimental and killed my unit at 75k miles.....had aamco fixed it while getting bent over real nice! ]

got a 2yr warranted rebuilt...now p1757 is flashing and 1st is shifting high....got to go back now....1st gear servo at wrong psi

With 275's, going to the 4.10s would actually reduce the strain on your trans. You would be running slightly higher RPM for a given road speed with those, as compared to stock gears/tires. Not really such a bad plan. Difference would prolly be less than 200 RPM. You would have a bit more perceived bottom end grunt as well.

You will find that a locker will wear tires a bit faster than a limited slip, regardless of how heavy your foot is.

well i am ordering the master install kit. im still unsure on my carrier. im trying not to spend too much. i think im gonna go with the 4.10's however my brother thinks i should get the 3.92's. and the detroit locker is really PRICY!! i might just have to go with the tru trac but that is going to cost me as well. anyone know where i can find a good deal on the carrier and Ring and Pinion.

The true trac is only 100 or so cheaper.

I usually get my diff parts from Randy's Ring and Pinion, they seem to always have what I need,at reasonable pricing. Don't forget to get the special tool you're going to need to adjust the carrier bearing pre-load. The tool usually runs around $70.

I would personally go with the 4.10's I mean it is an ss/t ( performance minded ) with larger than stock tires. performance would be pretty good. also I am a fan of the factory track lok. I know you have heard the horror stories but seriously, LSD for the street is where it's at and how many of these things are on the street as they were factory OEM from mustangs, jeeps, crown vic cop cars, our trucks and others...they are rebuildable in the vehicle and you have some options with what kind of clutches you want to install even how you stagger them. this gives you alot of "tuning" options, yeah if you take it and beat on it for 130,000k without inspecting it and freshening it up you could and should have a problem with it. plus it's the less expensive option. also x2 for completeoffroad.com
