Default Got my magnaflow cat today...

I'm wondering if I regret buying it. It seems as though a lot of people have flowmasters or whatever exhaust and their not using a cat. I dont smog where i live so i dont need one. Is it better to not have one on? what are the ups and downs? Are alternatives better? i just dont want to keep replacing the cat over the life of the truck if i dont even need it,ya know?thanks

I also went with this piece as well. I just got it installed yesterday. It was a lot bigger pain in the rear to get the old piece off compared to getting the new piece in. I went with the direct fit replacement that bolts up to the manifold on each side and y's into the cat and then has a couple feet of pipe after the cat. I also installed new front and rear O2 sensors. I then went with a flowmaster 40 series muffler and took it to an exhaust shop to run pipe out the rear. It sounds really good and runs so much better. My old O2 sensor wasn't doing anything so this new setup was a big help.

My state currently does test smog in and around the major cities. For cars newer than 95 mine is a 96. :/ I replaced mine it was worth it. The truck passed the sniffer with out it but the inspector found the gutted cat. I thought that was a great thing for him to do :/

I believe that the fines in Missouri are about 10x that of the hiflow. If caught with out. Could be wrong about that tho. So I did it. Its legal, I did add the flow master cat back also. Sounds nice no drone once up to speed but good tone at idle and when on it. I get compliments on it.

Mine is the same setup, but I just put the pipe for the left side of the engine into the CAT and left it un-welded. That cross over pipe is in the way if you need to drop the transmission and I figured if I didn't weld I could slip it apart and drop the tranny down. With 165,000 miles andun-known historyi expect to rebuild the tranny in the near future.

I had to tourch off the old bolts where the pipe bolts to the manifold, cut the crossover pipe off from the old CAT, and cut the exhaust pipe off A few feet from the CAT to allow me to slide the CAT out toarwds the front and the old muffler/pipe out the back. Worse part was torching off the bolts.

I just had the exhaust shop run a 2.5 inch pipe from my muffler out the right rear. Sounds great, compared to what I had and runs so much better.

Cat delete will net more power then any cat high flow. RMINDY proved that one with better 60' and 1/4 ET'S.
