i'm confused. i read that it was still running 220-230.

sitting right on the 2 of the 200 would be just about exactly 195*, which is the factory t-stat setting.

195-200 is perfectly normal. drive on.

Good to know that I'm not the only one that gets confused some times.

the gasket set is like 140 to 160 with tax. then you have machine time and cost for cleaning, magnaflexing the heads for cracks, and reseating the valves. plus labor to take them off and put them on

I wouldn't even bother having anything done to the heads. If I were going to have them off, I would just replace them, and be done with it. The factory heads had too many problems for me to be able to justify putting them back on.

Bringin this back to life

My head gasket has finally blown...it made it to 275,000 miles though. My question is what would you replace the stock heads with? Im not looking for performance, i race motorcycles for that. I just need the truck to get my bike to the track so even a good place to buy a stock replacement would be helpful for me.

I have the Cific heads on my truck so far so good. Both manufactures claim that these are new castings (thicker than stock).

Article on the Cific heads.

worked on my truck yesterday for the first time and was able to get both heads off in just under 3 hours. Im a little concerned. The head gaskets looked almost perfect with no signs of cracking or a blown gasket. What are the chances that the heads them selves are cracked? the truck has around 280,000 miles and this is the first time i have ever had to do anything with the heads. Would you pay the money to get them checked for cracks or would you just go buy new ones?
