time for a tune up - plugs wires???
need some input on plugs and wires for my 99 1500 - 5.9L. The local parts store is pushing the Bosch platnum, but I have heard these are no good. Any help would be appreciated
Our trucks don't seem to care for the platinum plugs, most folks get better results with just the stock replacement champions...... or the autolite 3923's? are popular as well.
Wires, just get a good quality set, with a long warranty. Don't forget cap and rotor, and a PCV valve from the Dealership. Don't bother with the aftermarket units.

I've ran the high dollar plugs.. and hated them.. the NTK iridiums were oping central.. Of all of them I've tried the copper champs are superior.. I've never tried the 3923's, because the store was out of them at the time..
I've never had a single issue with the champs..
Iridium's supposedly last longer, but I don't see the point if you have to pull and re-gap them at 30k miles.. you could buy three champs for one of the iridiums..

timing chain dude.. if that rascal is original, you will be AMAZED at the improvement you see.. since you are that far, water pump too.. and since you have to take out a couple bolts on the oil pan to get the new timing chain/gasket on, you may as well drop it and do an oil pump..
all of that said, none of it is a must- but the timing chain.. you will be amazed I'm telling you.
