Hi. I have a 1998 Dodge 1500 4x4 with the 5.9 gas engine and the automatic transmission just went out (206,000 miles). I found a transmission from a 2000 2wd pickup for sale. It has 95000 miles and is $200. Does anyone know if this will fit my truck. I know I would have to change the tail shaft over from my old tranny to accomodate the transfer case but I don't know if the tranny will fit. The owner bought if for a parts truck for some body parts and the engine and he said it drove fine when he drove it home (4 hour drive). The donor pickup had a V8 engine also. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

 

i believe so.. we have the 46re and 47re find out if its one of those if so it should work just fine.

 

The 4wd and 2wd have different out puts. It will work but will require some work.

 

Like completely disassembling it to change the shaft.... at least, the O/D section..... housing may be different as well. (might be able to just take off the tailshaft housing to fix that though.... not sure.)

If you just want a direct swap trans, get one out of the same year truck, that is also 4x4. Otherwise, you may run into additional issues. (different connectors, pinouts, and such.)
