I have a 98 ram, bought it with a blown engine. I bought another motor with 103,000 miles, heard it run before buying it. I did a regular tune up after I dropped it in, but now it wont start.

It'll start if I force feed it fuel through the intake.
So it does have spark but not enough fuel pressure and the fuel pump engages when I turn the key to the on position. But it stops suddenly after about 1 sec.(i had someone turn the key while I stuck my head under near the tank).

So I dont know if its the fuel pump itself, or just some other component that is not connected or malfunctioning.

any clues?

Fuel pressure is prob too low. Sounds like you have good spark. The pump will stop after turning the key on if it is not started.

 

never mind, the throttle cable was not routed correctly; fixed it and started right up.

Glad to hear. I've done the same type of thing many times.

 

I once installed the throttle linkage on my carbd SBC BACKWARDS. I got a better carb and it required the routing to be reversed from stock. So When i turned the key it was at WOT.
