Default rebuilt ram mpg

Anyone know what what i can do to get a rebuilt 1996 ram good mpg. its got the 360 in it and id like to get the mpg up around 18-20 if its possible. i want to run 35's on there and ive heard upping the gear ratio can counter that. any suggestions or tips?

also if there are any engine swap kits for cheap, id like to know where i can get them.

I've got headers, full exhaust, bigger tb, sct tuner, and 4.88's pullin my 35's and I pulled 16 mpg. That's babying it.

35s and 20 MPG will not happen with these trucks, even if you have the 5.2L V8 (let alone the larger 5.9L V8). You can get a nice off-roader (or at least it'll look the part) or a decent gas mileage truck (relatively speaking), not both. Most of the upgrades for one or the other will counteract each other.

there is a subculture that call themselves ecomodders/hypermilers. there are a few good websites documenting their tinkering. they have some worthwhile reading material over there. It makes me think it's possible. If you get bored, google it.
edit, just found it...check out ecomodder.com there's a guy with an f350 getting 27 mpg. look at the 65+ecomods tab

First, at best, thats the 5.4L V8 he's got. Its got less power than our Dodge's 5.2L V8 (real world tests, not talking claimed HP), and is known for good gas mileage for a V8. 2nd, he doesn't have 35s. 3rd, he's slammed to the ground.

I am not saying good mileage isn't possible. Near 20 MPG is possible with the right moves on a 5.2L V8, maybe even kind of close on a 5.9L V8, with the right truck, driver, upgrades, and environmental conditions. However, not with 35s and the type of truck the OP is looking for.
