advice on o2 or governer preasure
Ok took my truck to shop today. He hooked up a scan tool to it only code that popped up was o2 sensor. With 211,000 miles.. i figure the o2 was gonna come up i dont have a cat. I explained to him about my 1-2 shift during wot would hit rev limiter. His reply was he doesnt think its the governer preasure. Because theres no code. Ive explined to him that they flood under heavy throttle. He stated hes worked on jeeps and dodges. And if theres no code its prob not that. But he has had them come in with acode and it still not be the issue. He stated if mine was bad it would start in a diff gear and etc. He said its most likely a problem with the o2 sensors causing a bad reading on heavy throttle. He recommended a o2 simulator.. wuts everyones oppinion on this? Thanks for your help
Im sorry he did not say. What one it was. Ill see if i can get a code tom. he cleared it but came back on 10-15 mins later. As always ill get the code off my scan guage II and post
The o2 wouldn't affect shifts at WOT, because the computer goes to open loop(basically) at WOT.
A Picture would be worth 1000 words in the case of the governor pressure solenoid, but here goes a basic explanation of the forces applied to a valve to make a shift.
The valve itself is rerouting line pressure, from one route to another. Line pressure is the greatest pressure in the trans.
In order for the valve to be maintained it needs governor pressure, with the help of a spring, along with TV (throttle valve) pressure. Now.....Governor pressure is regulated at 1 psi per 1 mph with a maximum of line pressure. This is why the speed sensor is critical to shifting.
TV pressure is also used to maintain the valve, which if you understand how the tv valve itself works you can see that the tv pressure remains fairly constant, varying only by the placement of your foot on the gas.
This pressure is used to help the governor pressure to hold the valve from shifting until the governor pressure builds high enough(again, dependent on speed) to make the valve shift,a light lift on the gas pedal would drop tv pressure and cause a shift to take place.
This is the most basic explanation I can give, and it is not uncommon for the trans to hold gear indefinitely at WOT because of the combination of all things. Most shift kits adress these issues by enlarging bleed ports and changing spring tensions used to help the governor, to cause a better case senario at WOT.
Even they need some fine tuning to generally get them to do what you want them to.

well i just got a transgo shift kit.. just gotta get it installed.. took it to my loca tranny shop they said 164 for install and a maximum of 230 to install. so when i come up with the money ill get it installed and see if its better i guess
I go tom to take my truck to my buddy whos was a mecanic for 30 yrs. He gonna take a look at yhe kit and see if he can install it. Over the phone he saidno prob but still wants to look at it.
