Ok, so prolly a no go on flowtechs, SCT for the tuner.....The plus side to the SCT is that I wouldnt have to retard my timing chain set at all. All that can be done with the tune correct?

As far as the headers go, looking at them I might go with some edelbrock shorties. Any ideas on the Cat and Y pipe? Magna Flow sells a direct fit but for $570 I could dang near redo my entire exhaust.

Top dollar gaskets and hardware are a no brainer. Planned on drilling the bolts and just lock wiring them after a couple re-torqs.

Here are my recommendations from a guy that has owned TWO 2ndgens and done lots of mods. AND I am in the Army, AND I was posted in Ft Drum NY, so i know the laws. I had a 1996 with a hollow cat, but if your truck is not TAGGED in NY, you don't need to even go to smog inspection!!!

Get these mods as "packages" otherwise you will not get the most out of a mod:

#1: SCT Package, you need to do a couple things to get the best from the SCT COST: around $900.
-- SCT with 3 canned tunes from hemifever (PM hemifever, sean is his name. Costs 265)
-- 50mm throttle body from www.thefastman.com
-- Hughes or APS plenum plate kit
-- 180* thermostat (it is not gonna be VERY cold in the winter in NY, get an electric fan...read later)
-- 1.7 Roller Rockers from Hi-potek.com
http://stores.hi-potek.com/-strse-13...tio/Detail.bok

#2: Exhaust: Cost, about $550 plus install of the cat (unless you can weld)
-- I have owned Edelbrock Headers and JBA headers (Both ceramic). The JBAs are MUCH better with a MUCH thicker ceramic coating. The Edelbrocks rusted through in NY in less than a year. GET JBAS!
-- Magnaflow cat

#3: Pulley and fan About $450
-- Get an underdrive pulley (25% underdrive from Hi-Potek for cheap). YOU WILL NEED AN AFTERMARKET BALANCER to replace the once piece pulley and balancer on your 2001 (like mine).
http://stores.hi-potek.com/-strse-90...eel/Detail.bok
^^ Pulley
http://stores.hi-potek.com/-strse-54...all/Detail.bok
^^ Balancer needed to bolt to underdrive pulley
-- Electric fan: Reason being is because with a 180* thermostat and NY temperatures, you will not want your clutch fan spinning all the time. Get an electric fan that does not kick on until you get to 180*. OR, you can get some grille inserts that will block air from going through the radiator. Cheapest fan that is proven is the flex a lite black magic. This fan comes with a fan controller (temp setting):
http://moesperformance.com/index.php...r_of_uploads=0
^^ Once you put it in your cart, it goes down to $259.99

After you do all that, you will have more than you would ever want and be a GREAT daily driver. FINAL COST: about 2000 (Give or take 300 dollars)
PM me with any questions. I was stationed in drum for 4 years. I assume that you are going there.

I am gonna get that one next year. but that is a CALIFORNIA emissions part. Also, hi-potek quoted me at 565 shipped, if you want to save some cash.

The biggest thing is that you want to replace the factory y pipe. It is basically two 2.5 inch pipes crushed to fit 3 inch where the cat goes into. Just pay a shop 150 to bend some more tubes and make one that is not constricting like that. Then just get a new cat.

The 570 part is a 3 cat system. My truck is a cali truck, so I need that.

BTW, this is what you get for 570: Notice the three cats, not what you need unless your truck has 3 cats.

part number 45206. Direct fit CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS!!!

I have hedman's and theyre great. Locktite on the bolts and not a leak to consider. Not even ceramic coated. Kinda wish mine was OBD 2 everyone keeps talkinghighly of hemifever. Sounds like something you should listen to these members about. I also hear good things about 1.7's theyre on my future to do mod list.

I appreciate all the info....Truck is not currently tagged in NY but it will be. Getting out after this deployment and am gonna stay there for at least a year. So I want to keep it legal.

Throttle body has already been shaved and polished. I might see if I can find another one to mod when I get back.

Plenum plate has been replaced. I work in a sheetmetal shop, made one out of .190 in T6 aluminum. Fel Pro gaskets, and brand new hardware.

Running a 195 thermostat right now, will be changed when I do the timing chain. Already have electric fan setup....hi/low, auto temp turn on. Running a ford taurus fan. More than enough. I was stationed in Fairbanks, AK last time around so I know all about the cold. Had to run electric fan and grill inserts to keep my tranny fluid from gelling in the winter. Hit me up if you want the links....I built my E Fan setup for about half of what the black magic fan would have cost. Spent 2months doing research and comparing prices.

Kinda want to stay away from the under drive pulley setup. E fan puts a pretty good load on the electric system and want to keep the rpm's up at the alternator.

1.7rr or a cam might be in the future. Not in my plans right now. I will prolly end up just throwing a cam in it.

I was kinda figured that I was just gonna end up having an exhaust shop make me a less restrictive exhaust. I saw the part you are mentioning from Magna Flow but they also have one that is not legal in Cali. Same pic but different part.

I was at Drum for about 6 months before they shipped me out again. I appreciate the info.

oops, I forgot about all your mods you listed. Seems like you don't need too much.

PM Hemifever and get the SCT, first and foremost. That is the best thing i have done to my truck.

Since you don't have too much left to do, I would shy away from the edelbrocks and spend the extra 80 bucks on the "titanium ceramic coated" JBA headers. Night and day difference in quality.

BTW, you can probably get an exhaust shop to bend you some tubes for a less restrictive y pipe and install it for about 250. you want to stick with 2.5 and 2.5 from the headers, but what you don't want is how they are "crushed" to fit to the cat.
