Another deployment...Time for some new mods
01 1500 5.9l 4.10 gears, kegger mod, custom plenum plate, smoothed TB, 14x3 air cleaner, E fans, Cherry Bomb Extreme single in, dual out. Thats what Ive already done. Now for the future......
The truck is a daily driver, so its gotta be reliable. With the price of fuel in NY, improved mileage wouldn't hurt. Also with being in NY, gotta keep it legal. Here are my ideas for upcoming mods....
Timing Chain- double roller
Shorty Headers
Free Flow Cat- Probably go with MagnaFlow
Tuner- Super Chips
The timing chain is a definate, but I can't decide whether I want to go with a 2 or 4 deg retard. Any opinions? Good brands to go with?
Now that Im back down in the lower 48, gonna throw on some shorty headers. Can't decide whether to spend the money and get ceramic coated or grab a painted set and wrap them....I was looking at some Hedmans, but dang they are pretty pricey for painted headers. Maybe Flowtechs? Good brands of ceramic coated?
Its about that time for a cat too....I would like to find a free flow cat and a better flowing Y pipe. Any options out there? Am I better of just finding a good exhaust shop? I know there's a couple off road only Y pipes out there....anybody got them? As far as the cat goes, Magna Flow is pretty much the cat's meow.
I guess its about time to break down and buy a tuner. Get rid of the stupid death flash and see what happens. Im not looking for a hot rod, but extra power sure doesnt hurt when I make my trip from NY to OK. Anything out there better than the Superchips?
I appreciate all the help. If you have some better ideas or different things to consider, Im all ears.

My only problem with going for the SCT is the fact that I really dont need it....Last time I was looking it was about $700 for the SCT. Dont plan on doing any radical changes to the engine so its really kinda pointless to get custom tunes. Like I said, not a hot rod. Just a daily driver/work truck.

DON'T DO FLOWTECH!!!!!!!!! Those things are crap. I had the collector bend all over when I put them on my truck. They also leak very badly. I love my Gibson's and they are Chrome. Whatever you do clean up the mounting surface and grab the FelPro gaskets and you won't have to worry about leaks.

I've heard good things about the Gibsons. Definitely go ceramic coated if you can.
SCT is $265 for 3 "canned" tunes, $365 for custom tunes if you plan on getting a wide band O2 sensor later. (He also lets you do the canned unit and "upgrade" to custom tuning later for the $100 difference.)
