01 ram 3.9 wont start
Im trying to fix my sons truck which sat for almost three years because of a DUI issue, he told me he was starting it every few months to keep it running. with that being said the issue at hand is it will turn over try to run for about one second and never keep running. I have checked tps, cam, crank, speed, fuel pump motor and relays and fuses. A obd tool says tps or switch circuit. I just droped the tank to check and clean pump, I had draind most of the gas originally and added couple gallons fresh gas and some gas treatment, the gas in the tank when I pulled it had a strong turpentine odor and didnt look clear. So first off did I miss any sensors that could effect the start, the computer did have all proper voltages to sensors and I assune that is good. What is the switch circuit? I assume key switch and any switch that will keep asd and fuel relays from holding. And lastly what can be done to clean the tank, injectors and lines of any varnish or crap that may be in it and what is the best way to blow out the lines with air. Please correct me if i'm not on the right track with trouble shooting or anything I may be doing in trouble shooting. Also I dont see a fuse labled fuel pump under the hood, and the o2 sensor fuse has no power on eithor side of it, the fuse is good. I thank you in advance for any technical expertiese you can give this frustrated dad in trying to cost effectively fix his sons truck.
Sincerely
K13
I wanted to add that after trying to start truck there was no presure being released at the fuel rail port. Originally I did have pressure the first time I released it, but not since then, thats another reason I droped the tank, now 12 volts to motor runs pumb, I did clean deposit of sending unit and now meeters good when moved, I assume if the pump runs, it should be good, what else can be done with pump to clean or tweak before putting it back in.
Thanks again!
Sincerely

Hey you, thank you, for the response. To answer you're question, it will run for one second, thats it, and not every time you crank it, it seems like if it sits a day then I crank it I get the one second fire the first time, then nothing after that, sometimes if I let it sit 15 minutes or so, I might get another one second fire.
Could you tell me the sequence under normal condition of the asd and fuel pump relays, from what I read and understand, which could be incorrect, the asd and fp relays energize for three seconds when you turn the ignition on, and thats to pressurize the fule system. So I assume with the ignition on after 3 seconds the asd and fp deenergizing is normal, unless the vehicle is started. So is it when the starter relay drops out the asd and fp energize? And whats up with o2 fuse with no voltage on eithor side, is that a supplied voltage from contacts of the asd or fp energized relays? Is there a fule pump fuse, I see no fuse labled fuel pump under the hood. Should injector cleaner be poured into the master brake vaccume line? And how do I blow out the fuel line with air? Through the rail pressure relief port?
Thank you, hey you, you time and effort is greatly appreciated in my quest to shoot this bug. Us Marines pride ourself's on a one shot kill, I hope you're round will hit the mark. I got 70 virgins for ya if ya do.

ASD relay is triggered for three seconds at initial key on, and then, it gets shut off until the PCM sees that the engine is cranking. (via the cam, or crank position sensors)
Given your symptoms, I would take a look at fuel pressure......
As a quick and easy test.... try swapping the asd relay with the wiper relay, or something similar. Might just have a weak relay.
Fuse K in the PDC is for the O2 heater circuit, which is indeed controlled by the ASD relay.
