Default Hybrid Ram Dodges response..

I emailed Dodge and told them that Im not buying a new truck because the gas milage sucks and they need to improve on it. I then ranted that nothing has been done in fuel economy in full size trucks since the 80's.

The response I got was the Fullsize Rams will have a Hybrid Engine in it in 2007/08 and it will be 30% better on fuel with the same HP or more!

I dont know about you guys but thats only like 4-5 more MPG. I'd take it but I still think its sad. Id like to see these things get a min of 20-25 mpg city. And if Americans were not so wasteful (myself included) I bet we would already have it. Nothing speaks louder than your pocketbook not buying things!

Anyhow Hybrid Ram 1500's are coming!

No joke; with my cruise set on 75mph, 225/45R16 wheels at the time, the 4-spd automatic, 5.2L, and great weather condtions (+/-78 degrees?), I made 21mph running south between Oklahoma City and Dallas (Once I got to 75, I stayed there.) Dodge under-rates all of it's fuel milage assements on the HEMIs 'cuase they know that people will be gouging on them. Also, if they were to add MDS to the trucks, they would sell alot more. If you drive them like your great-grandmother drives her Caddy, you'll get better than they say you will.

I am also working on a fuel vaporization system and an exhaust flow improvement system (half-way through with the proto-type at the time) which will really boost not only economy, but performance. I'll keep you informed on those projects.

I think it all has to do with how much low end torque you have... when my truck had massive amounts of low end, mpg was at it's highest (14's woho lol) when the low end was gone, it was down in the 11's.

right now my truck is giving me about 13 if I can keep my foot out of it... lmao, yeah right. Im having more fun with it now than ever before. it rocks!!! [sm=icon_rock.gif] but I'm getting high 11's with my foot mashed to the floorboard...

I was thinking that opening up the fuel injector bores would help mpg and maybe it did... as some of you know I did the 1.7 RR's and that is supposed to give a bigger cam profile across all rpm's. i was sure this would hurt my fuel economy but it didnt. It'll be interesting to see how the next intake mod does on mpg...

Right now my truck averages around 13mpg highway. I think that's pretty good for a v10. I figure it by the amount of gas used between fill-ups and the reading on the trip. It's a little off though, as my truck has larger series tires than what it came from the factory with. Actually, that means my milage is probably better than what I figure...but I don't know the proper calculations to figure that.

Anyway, I know a few guys that have HEMIs, and they don't get much better than 14mpg highway. That should change for people planning on buying new trucks from here on out as Chrysler will be installing their cylinder deactivation system on all HEMI equipped trucks. That should help out the highway mileage quite a bit.

Rumor has it the company that builds the dodge transmissions is getting ready to retool to start production of a six speed automatic that will go in the Dodge line of trucks. Bout time they did it, that should have been done yrs ago. All you have to do is look at the corvette v8 with six speed tranny runs down the road doin 80 pulling 1800 or so rpm. No wonder the trip guage said 55 miles to the gallon.

Yup I agree 4.56 for 35's and 4.10s for 33's

Seems like everything I read the happiest people run with those combos.

And I bet we see alot of tricks now that GM lost 1 billion dollars last year in sales. Who the hell wants a big gas guzzler when it take 50-70 bucks to fill. I'll tell you the truth I'm cheap! I'll spend a ton of cash on beer and computer parts but It pi$$es me off when gas goes up 10 cents a gallon. I just know that the profits of that are lining peoples pockets and not really going to anything worthwhile. Anyhow a sixth gear would be nice for flat roads and I read that cylinder deactivation will give you a supposed 5mpg more. So now your getting close to 20mpg. Add in a 6th gear and maybe 25mpg? If they hit 25mpg I would replace my RAM -- NOTE TO DODGE --- YOU'LL SELL 1 NEW RAM FOR SURE IF YOU HIT 25MPG!!!

---- End of Ranting

Cheers
