Train Horns Installed On Dodge Ram - Yes I did!
I have no idea why I did this except I was surfing the internet and I ran across a group of people who's hobby was to buy up train horns and honk them in the woods. Kind of a group hobby. Well i was interested so I surfed the net and learned more about this hobby and decided since I always wanted on board air in a truck why not add a set of train horns too. I am halfway through this adventure now but here is my results. I plan to have a connection in the bed of the truck for a airline to hook up airtools or a airhose to fill my tires on the trail. I am mounting a 20 gallon airtank in the plastic bed box and have a line on a very good compressor. Im just not sure if Im going to get the one that runs off a belt or a 12v one. Extream air makes a nice 12v compressor.
Anyhow surf halfway down the page and there are pictures and a sound byte....

Oh and for my safety disclaimer I will not be using these horns in place of my OEM horn I just thought this would be a fun thing to have. You never know when a huge flock of birds or a wandering moose might need to be cleared from the road.

hey I was also going to ask you. did you hit a button to make them sound like that or do they just go by themselfs, every time i hear a train go through my town it sounds the exact same way, I was just wondering if it was automatic. thanks

To answer your question the Miltary ships 1 car for free and the 2nd car is at your expense. So the miltary will be shipping the Ram home on their dime. I'll be paying for my wifes Intrepid since its only 4 years old. When I had my ranger shipped it was 1200 bucks plus the germans charged me 200 dollars tax to enter the country. Since my Ranger was paid off and in tip top condition I figured it was worth shipping over.
The sound byte is not mine due to the fact I am missing a compressor for the truck and some odds and ends. Ill have a new sound byte when my project is done. As I said its a expensive project. The horns run 400 bucks - the compressor 389 plus shipping and then I need about 100 bucks in parts and hoses. Oh yeah the sound is made by a 50 dollar electric solenoid in line with the air tank. I'll have a nice write up when I get done. I am excited to have on board air. That means when I air my tires down on the trail I can charge up the 20 gallon air tank and fill the tires back up in a jiffy. It beats my sad hand held sears compressor that takes 20 mins a tire. Anyhow there is no real reason to have the horns that I do. I just wanted them.
Take care.

how load are the red ones you have, are they like as load as a truck horn or are the total crap. I have some off a truck but i need the same stuff your talking about and im not looking to spend that much money for horns. ( my cash is going to my lift.)
just so you guys know those are a small set.. when a truck driver has a set they are the REAL train horns they are like 21/2 to 3 feet in lenght and take a stupid amount of air to push. I helped a guy rig some up on his semi and they will hurt you if your standing close when they go off.
