Default Shock fitment

Hey guys i got some skyjacker hydro shocks off of summit racing and i am having trouble installing the new front ones. The metal sleeve that goes through the bushing is to wide to get it into the slot where the bolt goes through it. Can i take it to the bench grinder and grind the sleeve flush with the bushing?

Thanks guys!

I took a dremel and ground just the bottom part of the sleeve enough to get it started in the slot. Then I took a rubber mallet to the top and pounded it in. Took a while, but I got her in there. The toughest part is getting it straight so it lines up with the bolt hole.

DO NOT use a hammer, use a rubber mallet. Hammer will flatten the top of the shock, and make it impossible to put the nut on top when it comes time to secure the top part of the shock. I learned that the hard way the first time, had to use the dremel again to grind off the edges I had smashed that were keeping the nut from sliding on. Did it right on the second shock.
