I'm just wondering what's the best method for a guy with minimal body repair experience to fix a door. At the bottom of my passenger door, it's basically rusted all the way through. It's a section only about 1 inch above the bottom of the door, and about 6-8 inches long.

Is this something I can fill in with bondo or w/e or should i think about cutting the spot out, and welding something in. Would be hard though, as it's right at the bottom of the door. The lip/ fold over at the very bottom is still there, but then the hole in the door is right above that.

Or should I just go yank a door from the junk yard, and repaint/ transfer over my door panels and window and all that? Not sure which way is more difficult/ costly.

 

If you can find one in the scrap yard in good condition, I would go that route. I think its easier..... (finding one may not be though....)

farther back on the door, likely to join in with the rest of the decomposition of the door.

 

If you really want to repair that yourself, I would grind / cut away that part and weld a new strip on the rusted through section. The rest of the rust would have to be wire brushed away really well and some good rust treatment stuff, if you can find some, to put on it. There's a good chance you'll find more rust when you start working on it.
For body filler I tired some fiberglass body filler (just like the Bondo body filler)that appears to be working well so far on mine. I would assume it would seal it better than regular old body filler but time will tell.
As for matching and finishing the paint... I suck at that part of it.
Once you start working on it you may wish you had just gotten another door.

 

Yep easier to just get a door.
