Default truck running at 210

So ever since i got the new truck it runs at 210. I just wanna know if running at 210 all the time would hurt the performance and gas milleage. Im changing the thermostat to 180 degreee so we will see what happens.

my truck ran at 210 with stock 195 thermostat since ive changed to 180 it sits anywhere from 180 to max 186. i never saw anything bad when it was running at that temp. since ive changed ive seen no difference just runs cooler and alittle better

How does running 14 degrees warmer harm the engine? The computer will change a/f settings to coincide with the higher temp. I battled with mine to keep the temp down. I flushed the coolant system several times, new radiator, fan clutch, water pump, and numerous thermostats. I'm nowing running a 180 and it still gets around 190 ish if I drive it hard. I think I need to burp the system some more though.

180* tstat without a tune will not do anything to your truck, good or bad.

210 is the "normal" temp for our trucks. I had a 1996 5.2 that ran 210. my 2001 ran 195 until I put in my 180* with the SCT tune. Now it stays at around 180 and on colder days, it does not seem to even get to 180. I get the "Engine too cold for too long" error code.

Unless you have a custom tune, don't get the 180*.

Lol. Thats funny. Stupidest thing ive heard. Its like saying you need a custom tune for every mod you would do.

A colder engine runs richer, without a tune to take advantage of the extra fuel it's wasting it.

Ive had no problems with mine. As for a custom tune theres no one herd that is gonna get a custom tune for just a 180 stat. I was even told i didnt need one when got the 1.7 rr that id say would be more important than 180 stat

He means the 180 is pointless without the tune, not that he needs a tune for the 180 stat. The tune just takes advantage of bolt on mods you have. A custom tune on anything without heads and a cam minimal is a waste.
