Default Can IAC still be toast even if cleaned?

Truck has a crappy idle when first started in the morning, sounds like its gonna choke and die...Once it warms up its ok though...

I pulled the IAC, it was mega dirty...i don't know how the thing even functioned at all in that state. I cleaned it up all shiny new with carb cleaner and elbow grease and threw it back in...absolutely no change in the cold idle...

Whats the word on these things just biting the dust and needing to be replaced? Truck has 240,000KM (150,000miles) and I doubt the thing has ever been replaced.

I bought a new one, gonna throw it in this weekend to see if it helps.

a "good" IAC motor requires it to rotate the pintle in/out under the command of the pcm. it works better when its clean, but just because its clean doesn't mean its any good.

i'd replace it. the troublesome little sob's.

edit - be sure the well in the TB is clean, and also that the port at the end of the well is open into the TB.

It would be less damaging if you unbolted it from the intake

I opted to go with the one from the dealer, it was about $20 more than one from Autozone, but you know it will work properly.

very easy to damage the IAC if you start monkeying with the pintle.
