Need to buy a rebuilt tranny for Ram 3500
Hi everybody, I am planning on buying a rebuilt transmission with converter
from a supplier. As this is my first time doing this, would like to have any
knowledgeable feedback from the indispensable forum members. My Van is
a 3500 Roadtrek Camping conversion as shown in the pic attached. Engine
is 5.2 (318) and the year is 2001. VIN 2B6KB31Y81K503143. Prefer to purchase
from west-coast supplier, but any place reliable is the choice to make.
I have checked eBay and googled, so far with no conclusive result.
Hope for some feedback from you guys with experience in this situation thankfully.

I can't check, but if I had to venture a guess i'd say you had a 46re trans. Some online retailers that pop up here every once in a while are...
Viper / Mega Viper from PATC
http://www.transmissioncenter.net/dodge.htm
APS Precision (used by member "hometheaterman" - mixed opinion)
http://www.apsprecision.com/
I was also going to point you to DR. Evil "pure evil" transmission
but... aparently there website is no more.
Overall... if I were you I would stick to a local shop for warranty purposes. Buying one over the internet only to run into issues just creates a bigger problem imho. Your call though. Good luck

I am in Japan hence not even have the parts in country to overhaul the trany.
Rear clutch pack spring got broken and was in the pan. Now no back gear.
I will try to overhaul this slowly, but I need to have the Roadtrek moving asap.
I have dealt with older (94,5,6,7) 46REs, this trany has a different looking multi pin on trany(kind of oblong),
unlike the round ones on early models, hence I wonder,
if the internals / working also may differ. I will look at the links you
provided now on and will keep you guys posted.
Also forget to mention that this vehicle is a canadian made.
There would be a difference in look for the 94 and 95's (maybe 96) since those are RH's not RE's.
Thanx to aim4squirrels, J415 for your input. Been away hence delay in responding.
Have got a trany builder recommended in N-Cal, Vasilla.
He will sell me one rebuilt with all new sensors + TC for 1200$.
I am going for it as this will have a personal touch.
However he wanted me to send the pics from the Neutral switch
as he says there are two types. Just sent pics and posting them here as
well for any knowledgeable comments. Thanx everybody in advance.
N.B. Unable to post all pics , sorry.

Make sure you ask for an upgraded torque converter, as the stock replacements aren't any better than the factory units, and they sucked.

Thanx - HeyYou - will discuss with my supplier about this TC issue.
Main problem facing me now is the absence of a core to rebuild.
My man says this trany is a special core due to the neutral switch as shown in the pic herewith.
Can anybody lead me to a place to get the right type core.
The trany is off a 3500 Canada built RAM.
VIN is as given first. Also the build sheet I got does not show the trany info.
Any meaningful comments will be greatly appreciated.

So far as I know, a fair few of those Canada built trucks made their way to the states as well.... there really shouldn't be a difference in the transmissions. (note: Shouldn't......) Should just be a 46RE...... though why they would even consider putting such a poor trans in a one ton, is absolutely beyond me.......
