Default Changed my transfer case fluid and nothing came out, yet it worked

I bought my truck about 2 months ago and I am finally getting around to changing all of the oils and fixing all of the little things (had to replace the dash and tires first). Anyways I took out the drain plug and literally nothing came out. It was mind boggling because it has worked for 20-30 times in the last two months and I doubt the fluid was ever in there. But how does the transfer case work without any fluid? Also I need to change my u-joints for my 4x4 ext cab truck and was wondering if advanced auto parts brand is good (naepco) and how many i do i need. Thank you

I don't mean to sound like a D-bag, but what plug did you take out of the transfer case? the bottom 10mm square head plug is the drain plug. The top square head is the fill plug.

It would grind when I would put it into 4wd low but not 4wd high or normal 2wd. And dont worry i thought i took out the wrong bolt too, so I put oil in the fill plug and it came oit of the drain. It just doesn't make sense to me because it's been working great and there wasnt a drop of oil.

You got lucky, tcase will still work, the oil is for lubrication and cooling.

I prefer the dana spicer life u joints. The p/n for my 2wd is 790x I think, not sure about the 4wd.

Do spicer u joints have a lifetime warranty on them?
Thats what I put in my truck. I did the two front axles. And the two on the rear drive shaft.

Napa sells greasable u-joints that I put in mine and they have worked well in the past 50k. I grease em every other oil change

The dana u joints may have a lifetime warranty, I don't recall offhand. They are a heck of a lot beefier than the typical u joint. If you look at them side by side with the standard parts store brand, you'll see the difference.
